This page discusses the ViewStation's Configuration File. This file
contains resources that control the ViewStation's operation. It is read
automatically with booting the ViewStation from
./hds-fx/config/config.fx. It uses the "FXUtilities" abbreviation to
configure the ViewStation automatically.
FXUtilities and
HDSware Abbreviation
The "FXUtilities" or "HDSware" abbreviation
is important to understanding the ViewStation's automatic configuration
process. "FXUtilities" (or "HDSware") is a substitution for the "hh" and
"hd" fields that give the location of the HDSware software, which you
specify either in Monitor Mode, or in Setup Mode. "hh" is the host's IP
address and "hd" is the path to the HDSware directory. "FXUtilities" is
then the host location of HDSware. The ViewStation knows the directory
structure of HDSware itself, so it can complete the path to any given
file. Thus, the complete path for the configuration file is
"/FXUtilities/hds-fx/config/config.fx".
ViewStation
Automatic Configuration
The ViewStation's configuration file
contains paths, such as to the configuration file or the fontpaths,
using this FXUtilities abbreviation, so as soon as you enter the "hh"
and "hd" information, the ViewStation can set all its needed paths to
its HDSware files.
The Configuration File
The
ViewStation's configuration file is a text file. It contains all entries
present in Setup Mode, as well as some special variables. Note that the
configuration file overwrites any settings you make in Setup Mode, so if
there is a conflicting setting, the Configuration file setting will be
used.
It is listed, complete with arguments and permitted
values, on the HDSware software in ./hds-fx/config/config.syntax.fx.
Configuration File Listing
This
page lists the entire contents of the ViewStation's configuration file.
Configuration File Passwords
Of
special interest and concern is handling of passwords in the
Configuration file. This page describes password usage and encryption by
the ViewStation.
Generating a
Configuration File
This page describes an easy way to generate a
configuration file.
Using Include
Statements in Configuration Files
This page describes a useful
feature supported by the configuration file.
Hard Disk Drive Configuration File
This page describes
differences in the configuration file used with ViewStations that have a
hard disk drive installed.
