This page describes starting your ViewStation
session manually.
At this point, your ViewStation should be
running - you should have a root window and a Setup Mode icon in the
lower right corner of the screen. If you need help booting, click on
this section Booting the ViewStation.
Logging on with Telnet
You start a session by logging onto a
host computer with Telnet. You can open a Telnet session from the Main
Menu of Setup Mode by clicking on the Telnet icon Setup
Mode Operations or use the Autostart feature for Telnet.
You
will see a Telnet window with a host computer selection box (entries of
host names and IP addresses in this box are governed by your Remote Hosts Menu in Setup Mode. Click on a host name and you will
open a connection to that host. Enter your username and password for
that host.
Starting with a Serial
Line Connection
If you are connecting to a host computer with a
serial line rather than an Ethernet connection, go to this page.
Setting the Environment Variable
After you have logged on,
you must set the environment variable. The environment variable is
important because it directs the output of the client application to the
ViewStation's display. This is easy on the ViewStation, which has
special keymappings for setting this variable ViewStation
Special Keymappings. Usually just press Alt-F12.
Starting a Window Manager
There are several options in starting
the window manager - starting the window manager on the ViewStation or
on the host, and if starting on the ViewStation, whether starting
locally from Setup Mode or via Remote Shell from the host computer.

time the ViewStation is reset. This file is useful for customizing
ViewStation operation.
