This section describes booting the ViewStation with its internal Monitor
Mode feature.
Monitor Mode Screen
Monitor Mode is
a special ViewStation utility to help you get started. It comes up
automatically if other boot processes fail. You get a message at the end
of the boot attempts "Press any key to retry or press m to enter Monitor
Mode". When you enter Monitor Mode, you see this screen:
HDS ViewStation FX Boot Monitor Current Settings: ViewStation IP Address: 1.1.1.1 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 Netmask: 0.0.0.0 HDSware Host Address: 0.0.0.0 HDSware Directory: Server Code File: Configuration File: /FXUtilities/hds-fx/config/config.fx Default File Protocol: TFTP Ethernet Type: Thin Command Summary: ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - set ViewStation IP address gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - set ethernet gateway address nm xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - set ethernet netmask hh address - set HDSware host address hd directory - set HDSware directory sc filename - set Server Code file cf filename - set Configuration file set resource value - set configuration resource show resource - display configuration resource tftp or ftp or nfs - use TFTP or anonymous FTP or NFS for default file accesses thin or thick - set Thin or Thick ethernet factory - reset NVM to factory defaults boot - save settings in NVM and reboot :
Starting the ViewStation
You can start the ViewStation
with just three entries: ip, hh, and hd. Other settings are optional,
but may be needed in your environment (such as ThickWire ethernet). The
minimal boot procedure is recommended, since other settings may be
overwritten by entries in the ViewStation's configuration file. If you
have not modified the configuration file, you can enter the hh and hd
values (this will load the configuration file), and the correct paths
will be found.
Making the Monitor Mode Entries
You
can enter the values from the ":" prompt at the bottom of the screen.
-- the IP address is the ViewStation't IP address assigned
--
the hh address is the IP address of the host where you loaded HDSware
-- the hd path is the root-based path to the HDSware location
Type the entries with values for your system:ip
128.192.206.24 (use your assigned value)hh
128.192.206.2 (use the IP address of your host)
hd /usr/lib/X11/HDS/HDSware (use the path on your host;
the ViewStation will supply the rest of the path, starting from
"hds-fx/...")
