This
page gives some troubleshooting suggestions for BOOTP.
Problems
with BOOTP Starting
If there is a problem with Bootp, try
Monitor Mode, or look for these things:
1. Verify that BOOTP
is running on your system. If you have problems or questions about
starting BOOTP, go to Setting Up BOOTP on
your Host Computer.
2. Verify that your entries in the
bootptab file are correct; verify the file syntax and the paths and
filenames. For further reference, go to Sample
bootptab File Entries.
3. Verify that the file transfer
protocol, TFTP by default, is running so the file can be transferred
correctly. For further reference, go to TFTP
in Secure Mode.
4. If you are running TFTP in secure mode,
remember that this changes the root directory to /tftpboot and this
must be reflected in your hd and T130 entries, which should then not
start with /tftpboot, but use that as its root directory.
5. Note that there is a 64 byte limit (actually 60 bytes) on
"vendor" fields, which includes T128, T129, T130, gw, sm, and ds.
BOOTP Debugging
The HDSware directory for BOOTP
(in ./hds-fx/contrib/bootp/src/bootp.xxx) contains some sample files
that can help you work with BOOTP. A file called "dobootp" shows you
how to start BOOTP on your host in stand-alone mode, and sets the debug
level to 5. This gives you a powerful diagnostic tool to see how BOOTP
is working.
