Tektronix WinDD version 3.0 Multi-Protocol Routing Service

RELEASE NOTES

Remove Multi-Protocol Routing Beta
==================================
If you have previously installed the Multi-Protocol Beta release on your
WinDD version 3.0, please remove the installed components (RIP for IPX,
RIP for Internet Protocol, or BootP Relay Agent) before running UPDATE.EXE
from this self-extracting executable. Failure to do so may result in an
incorrectly installed Multi-Protocol Routing service.

Static Routing Through SNMP
===========================
When adding a static route to the IP routing table using a SNMP Manager, the
route may be entered with an incorrect protocol type. In this case, the route
will not be considered local and IP RIP may not propagate the route properly.
There is a fix for inetmib1.dll in the WinDD version 3.0 Service Pack 3
release which fixes this problem. Please make sure that you are using the
inetmib1.dll shipped in this release.

IP RIP on a Single Homed Server
===============================
RIP for Internet Protocol (IP RIP) can be installed on WinDD version 3.0
with one network adapter. When IP RIP is installed on a machine with only
one network adapter, IP RIP is configured to run in Silent Mode. In Silent
Mode, IP RIP will receive RIP routing announcements and update its routing
table, but it will not send any routing announcements. If another network
adapter is installed, IP RIP will automatically be reconfigured to run in
Active Mode where it will send and receive routing information. IP RIP may
be configured to run in Silent Mode again by performing the following steps:

1. Start REGEDT32.EXE.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPRip\Parameters.
3. Change the value SilentRip from 0 to 1.
4. Exit REGEDT32.EXE.

Stopping the IPX Routing Service
================================
If you wish to stop the routing service, you can do so by typing:

        net stop nwlnkrip

at a command prompt. This command however will not stop the SAP (agent)
service. This is due to other services which rely on the SAP service. One
of these services is the WinDD ICA Browser service, which requires the
SAP service to remain running. You should not stop the SAP service.

Disabling IPX Routing Through the Control Panel
===============================================
To disable RIP routing, use the Network option in the Control Panel. In
the Network Settings dialog box, select the "NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible
Transport" option from the Installed Network Software list. Select the
Configure button and disable the "Enable RIP Routing" checkbox.

Thereafter, to disable the associated Netbios broadcast propagation, select
the "RIP for NWLink IPX" option from the Installed Network Software listbox.
Select the Configure button and select "Yes" when prompted if you wish to
disable broadcasts of type 20 packets.
