Citrix Installation Manager
for MetaFrame XPe
February 2001

INTRODUCTION
------------
This document contains last-minute information on Citrix
Installation Manager for MetaFrame XPe (Installation
Manager). Installation Manager enables you to package and install
applications, service packs, upgrades, files, and other
components to target servers. You can install a package
to hundreds of servers in your farm simultaneously
from one machine.

This document and the Citrix Installation Manager Getting
Started guide are installed with the Installation Manager
"Citrix Installer service" component on your main
Installation Manager server and the "Citrix Packager"
component on a Packager machine.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
-Pentium 3 processor, server grade computer
-A minimum of 64MB RAM plus additional RAM required by the
application to be packaged

-Windows Server NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition (TSE)
and Service Pack 5 or later
or
-Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services

-MetaFrame XPe Application Server for Windows, Version 1.0

INSTALLATION and LICENSING
--------------------------
Installation Manager should be installed on an
existing MetaFrame XPe server. No additional license or
activation are required to run Installation Manager.

For step-by-step instructions on how to install Installation
Manager, see the Citrix Installation Manager Getting Started
guide.

PUBS ERRATA
-----------
Citrix Management Console Help

-The management products that run with MetaFrame XP ship with
their own JavaHelp Jar files. Because of this, when you use
the console's online Help Index, you will see several
alphabetical lists: one each for the console, Load Manager,
Installation Manager, and Resource Manager. This is a Java
limitation that does not affect any help searching capabilities.

-The Introduction in the help states that you can access the
Citrix Installation Manager Getting Started guide and this
Readme from the \DOC directory on your CD-ROM. This has
changed; they are available in the root directory on your
CD-ROM in addition to the Documentation folder.

THIRD-PARTY LIMITATIONS
-----------------------

Microsoft Project 98

If you create a project on a Packager machine and run a recording
of Microsoft Project 98, the recording should stop automatically,
but it does not. In order to complete the recording, go to the
Task Manager and stop all instances of the FindFast.exe process.

Internet Information Services (IIS)

Packaging IIS is not supported. This is because the IIS install
program modifies a file called Metabase.bin. Some of the IIS
Windows NT services will not run if you copy Metabase.bin from
a Packager machine to your target servers.

LATE-BREAKING INFORMATION
-------------------------

Installation

-Before you install Installation Manager, make sure you log out
of the Citrix Management Console. Otherwise, you may experience
a delay and Installation Manager may not appear until the Citrix
Management Console restarts.

-During installation, if the screen fails to refresh, press F5.

Uninstallation

-If you uninstall MetaFrame XP, uninstall the Installation
Manager components first.

Citrix Packager

-Wizard. The Next button is greyed out when you try to add
a folder using the Project Wizard. To solve this problem,
after you add a folder, click Add File, browse to and select
the file to enable the Next button.

-Rollback. The Rollback feature in Packager replaces
the backup and restore functionality from the previous
release of Installation Manager. See the Packager online
help for information on the Rollback feature. If you want
to back up and restore your applications and data,
use a third-party backup and restore product.

-Recording. Shut down all other applications prior
to recording an application using Packager.

-Recording. The recording option, "Only the Run Program
and programs it starts," will not record a full installation
for some applications, such as Corel's WordPerfect Office.
To avoid recording problems, we recommend that you deselect
this option.

-Failure to record an application's shortcuts. Some older
installation programs use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) to
create application shortcut menus. Packager does not record
these shortcuts unless the "Only the run program and programs
it starts" option is deselected prior to recording the
installation. Some affected applications are: MSTest3.0,
QuickTime 2.12, Netscape 4.04 and 4.05 on Windows NT
Server 4.0, Oracle 7 Personal, and WordPerfect Office 97.

-Recording. If you deselect the "Only the Run Program and
programs it starts" option, the Done button may appear
prematurely after the primary application records.
We recommend that this option be selected in most
instances. Make sure that the recording process finishes
before you click the Done button.

-Applications that require multiple reboots. If an application
you are packaging reboots and continues the installation,
the Packager recording is lost. We recommend three solutions:
1. When the application approaches the reboot phase, choose
not to reboot the server or press ALT+TAB at the
Recording... dialog box (before the recording finishes)
and press the Done button. Save the project, then press OK
to request the reboot. 2. Use the Unattended Program option
to select "Copy program plus the following files locally and
then the run program" before recording. 3. If you choose not
to use the Unattended Program option and the application reboots
during the recording, Packager will not continue. In this case,
we recommend that you record each application as a separate
package, or record the first installation, then record the
bundled files in a separate package and install the bundled
files to the target servers before you run the first package.
Copy the files locally to finish the installation.

-Uninstall shortcut. If you encounter the "Failed to convert
to a short path" error when installing an ADF package, this
means that the file path you are trying to convert could not
be located on the target server. Below are two problems
related to shortcuts and their solutions:

1. Problem: The file was on the Packager machine before
the recording began, but it is not on the target server.
Solution: Clean the Packager machine before recording
to clean out old files.
2. Problem: The file was filtered by Packager and was not
installed on the target machine. For example, uninstall.log
files are not copied to the target machine (they could short
circuit the ADF package's uninstall procedure). If the
package attempts to create a shortcut to that file,
it will fail. Solution: Delete or comment out the
CreateShortcut command in the .wfs file.

-Unattended Program. The Unattended Program option
indicates that Unattended Program is only used for setup
programs. Use this feature also to schedule remote jobs
at the command line using any batch file or other program.

-File names. The Packager utility cannot work with file
names in components that contain special characters
(such as . , - & *).

Citrix Management Console

-If the same application exists in different packages for
different operating systems, the Application Publishing
wizard in MetaFrame XP does not allow you to choose which
package you want to use to publish the application for
each operating system.

Applications Notes

-Microsoft Office 2000. If you install Microsoft Office 2000
on a Windows NT Server 4.0 TSE with Service Pack 6, your machine
may hang after the initial reboot and login. In this case,
power down your machine. This is an Office 2000 compatibility
problem. The problem does not occur on a Windows NT Server
4.0 TSE machine with Service Pack 5 or Windows 2000 Server.

-Microsoft Office 2000. A transform file is created for
installing Microsoft Word only. When installing a MSI
package of Office 2000 using the transform for Word, however,
all of the components will install.

-Internet Explorer 5.5. We recommend that you use the Unattended
Program option to install Internet Explorer 5.5 (see Microsoft's
Internet Explorer administrator kit for information). If you've
recorded an installation of Internet Explorer 5.5, performing
a rollback causes Windows NT Server 4.0 TSE to initiate
a core dump.

-Paint Shop Pro 7. If you install a MSI package that contains
Paint Shop Pro 7 on a Windows NT Server 4.0 TSE machine,
and the network share account is not the administrator
on the target server, the message "You do not have
administrative privileges on this machine. The installation
cannot be completed correctly unless it is run by an
administrator" appears. Click OK at the message box.
The installation continues and finishes successfully.
To avoid this message from appearing (which will require you
to go to each server to close it), change the Installation
Manager Network Account to be a local administrator on your
target machines during installation.

-Norton AntiVirus 2000. If you use Packager to record and
create an ADF package of Norton AntiVirus 2000, the
Advisor.exe file will install on a target server, but it
will not run. This is because Norton AntiVirus creates a
file with the extension *.liveReg in the
appdata\symantec\shared folder. This file only works for
the machine on which it was originally installed. Since
Live Advisor uses this file, installation fails when you
create the file on another machine. There is no workaround.

-Norton Internet Security 2001 on Windows NT servers.
You cannot install the Norton Internet Security 2001 MSI package
from a UNC path on Windows NT Server 4.0 TSE, as it requires a
mapped drive. This requirement is not compatible with Installation
Manager. You cannot use Installation Manager to install
this package on Terminal Server Edition servers.

-Norton Internet Security 2001 on Windows 2000 Server.
A Norton Internet Security MSI package generates several
dialog boxes even when a "no user interface" install is
requested on Windows 2000 Server. You must go to each
target server and close the dialog boxes before this
product installs successfully.

-VisualStudio 6.0. We do not recommend that you use
Installation Manager to package or install this product.
This application's installation copies system files and
modifies hundreds of registry entries on the target server.
Limitations in the uninstall logic of recorded packages
prohibits the successful uninstall of this product if it is
installed with an ADF package. Since the uninstall can corrupt
the registry, if you decide to install this product, we recommend
that you deselect the "Include uninstall" option when packaging
this application suite. When installed, however, you cannot
uninstall VisualStudio 6.0.

Network Browsing

The network browser only browses domain resources that are
provided in the Microsoft Windows Network. Networks such as
Novell NetWare and UNIX networks are not supported.
