Summary:

The order of records in Microsoft File can change because of the way disk and memory space are used. If records are deleted or if there is space between records in memory, File reuses this space so that records entered at the end of the data file may actually be placed between other records.

To maintain a specific order in a file that has no sorting criteria, create a record-number field to sort on.

To retain the current order of the data file, from the File menu choose Save Records As, and give the document a new name.
