SUMMARY

The following items generate a non-delivery report (NDR) with an empty Mail From: <> header:
  • Exchange Server 4.0 Internet Mail Connector (IMC).
  • Internet Mail Service in Exchange Server 5.0 and 5.5.
  • The SMTP virtual server in Exchange 2000 Server.
This is the preferred method in accordance with RFC 2821 Section 3.7.
