OL2000: Timex Watch Will Not Accept Extended Characters

SYMPTOMS

When you export contact phone numbers from Microsoft Outlook to the Timex Data Link watch, the watch will not import any contact name that includes extended characters; however the phone number is imported.

CAUSE

The Timex Data Link watch does not support extended characters.

To export contact phone numbers to the Timex Data Link watch, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Import And Export.
  2. In the "Import and Export Wizard" dialog box, click to select "Export to the Timex Data Link watch" and click Next.

    NOTE: If this feature is not installed on your computer, you will receive a prompt to install it at this point.
  3. Click to select the "Phone numbers from contacts" check box, and click Next.
  4. Click to select the contacts you want to export from the list, and click Next.
  5. Set your watch to COMM READY, and click OK.
The watch will import the contact names and phone numbers. For any contacts containing extended characters in the Name field, the watch imports the phone number without a name.
