Embedded Objects Cannot Be Faxed from Outlook Using SBS

SYMPTOMS

Mail messages created in Outlook that contain embedded objects are successfully sent to the Small Business Server fax service, but are received without any embedded objects.

CAUSE

Mail messages created in Outlook are sent to the SBS fax service using the fax mail transport service. This service does not have the ability to render embedded objects.

RESOLUTION

Documents can be created in Word, or another Microsoft Office application, and printed to the fax server. Office applications are able to render embedded objects and send the data to the fax printer.
