SYMPTOMS
When you print labels in Works for Windows, the printer may
skip several rows of labels, and then continue printing.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:
- The printer driver installed on the computer is
incompatible with your printer, or the printer driver is outdated.
- The paper source setting for your dot matrix printer is
incorrect.
- You are printing a custom label and one or more of the page
size settings for the label are incorrect.
- The First Row To Print setting is incorrect.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the
order in which they are presented. After you complete each method, test to see
if the issue is resolved. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next
method.
Incompatible or Outdated Printer Driver
Make sure the printer driver you are using is designed to be used
with your printer. To check which printer driver you are using, follow these
steps:
- Open any Works document.
- On the File menu, click Print.
The name of the printer driver you are using is
displayed in the Name box under Print.
- Click Cancel.
If the driver displayed in the
Name box does not match the make and model of the printer you are
using, click the correct driver for your printer in the
Name box, and then click
OK.
NOTE: Your printer may be able to emulate another manufacturer or
model of printer. Contact your printer manufacturer or consult the
documentation provided with your printer for information about other drivers
that are compatible with your printer.
If the driver does match the
make and model of your printer, contact the manufacturer of your printer to
inquire about obtaining the latest driver for your printer.
Paper Source Set Incorrectly on a Dot Matrix Printer
To change the paper source for your labels, follow these steps:
- Open your word processor label document.
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- Click the Source, Size & Orientation tab.
- Click the correct paper source in the Source box under Paper, and then click OK.
For example, if you are using tractor fed labels and
the paper source is set to Manual Feed, click Tractor Feed in the Source box under Paper, and then click OK.
- Click OK.
Custom Label Settings are Incorrect
If you are printing custom labels, follow these steps to verify
the custom label settings:
- Open your word processor label document.
- On the Tools menu, click Labels.
- Click Labels or Multiple Copies Of One Label.
- Click the Label Size tab, and then click Custom.
- On the Label Size tab, make sure the Down setting under Number Of Labels matches the number of rows of labels on the page you are
using.
- On the Page Size tab, make sure the Size, Width, and
Height settings under Paper match the size of the page you are using.
- Click Done, and then click Close.
The First Row To Print Setting Is Incorrect
To verify that the First Row To Print setting is correct, follow
these steps:
- Open your word processor label document.
- On the Tools menu, click Labels.
- Click Labels or Multiple Copies Of One Label.
- Click the Printing tab.
- If you want to start printing your labels at the top of the
page, make sure the First Row To Print setting under Print
Options is set to one. If you want to start printing further down the
page, type the appropriate number in the First Row To
Print box.
- Click Close.
