The information in this article applies to:
Visual InterDev 6.0 on a server or workstation using Windows 2000 Professional Beta can return the follwoing error message during the creation of a new Web project or the attempted loading of an existing Web project:
Unable to contact webserver
This is caused by the improper setup of FrontPage 98 Server Extensions on Windows 2000 or a bad configuration of the FrontPage 99 Server Extensions. Only the FrontPage 99 Server Extensions is supported on the Windows 2000 Beta. Any previous version will cause the above error message.
Use the following steps to reconfigure the FrontPage 99 Server Extensions and correct this problem:
1. Uninstall the existing extensions via Add/Remove in the Control Panel. The
extensions could be listed as "Microsoft FrontPage 98 (or 99)" Server Extensions. Reboot the machine if asked.2. From the WINNT\ststem32 directory, go to the command prompt and type the
following: "sysocmgr /i:fp.inf" (without the quotation marks)3. Reboot the system.
4. Go into the "Program Files\Microsoft FrontPage" directory and run the
FrontPage Server Extensions Administrator.5. Click Install. The extensions will be updated on your Web projects.
6. Stop the IISADMIN service and restart the W3SVC service.
This procedure should properly install and configure the FrontPage 99 Server Extensions required for Visual InterDev on the Windows 2000 beta.
Note you must fully uninstall the previous extensions (either 98 or 99) for steps 2 to 6 to work.
