BUG: RegConnectRegistry on Windows NT Returns ERROR_BAD_NETPATH

SYMPTOMS
When the ANSI version of the RegConnectRegistry() API is called from Microsoft Windows NT to connect to a remote registry on a Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 computer, error code 53 (ERROR_BAD_NETPATH) is returned.
RESOLUTION
To avoid this problem use RegConnectRegistryW(), the Unicode version of the
API, to connect to remote Windows 95 or Windows 98 registry databases from
Windows NT.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article. This bug has been fixed in MIcrosoft Windows 2000 and later versions.
