SYMPTOMS
When trying to create a new Web Project in Visual InterDev the following
error occurs in Step 3 of 4:
Cannot create a disk-based Web application in 'C:\My Documents\Visual
Studio Projects\ProjectName\ProjectName_Local'. Config file "": value
"Global FrontPageRoot" not found.
Or, in Step 1 of 4, the following error occurs:
Unable to contact Web server http://<servername>
CAUSE
This error occurs if FrontPage Server Extensions are removed.
The "Unable to contact Web server" occurs if the FrontPage Server
Extensions are not on the server machine specified in Step 1 of 4. The
"Cannot create a disk-based Web..." error occurs in Step 3 of 4 if the
client machine is a separate machine from the server, and while the server
has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, the client machine does not.
RESOLUTION
Reinstall FrontPage Server Extensions on the appropriate machine.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
