Multiple Entries for AUTOCHK Abort in System Log

SYMPTOMS

The following message or messages appear in the System Log of the Event Viewer:

   Press any key in XX seconds to abort AUTOCHK.

NOTE: XX is a number from 1-30.

You may see a log entry for every second start at thirty and counting backwards to one.

CAUSE

During the startup process, if the system determines that CHKDSK needs to run, AUTOCHK will automatically create a log entry each second during the AUTOCHK Abort countdown process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT version 4.0. For more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
