To Create a Desktop Icon to Start Outlook

1. Right-click your desktop.
2. On the shortcut menu, point to New and click Shortcut.
3. Browse or type the path to the Outlook.exe file, usually found in:

   \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

4. Click Next.
5. Type a name for this shortcut or accept the default of Outlook.exe, and click Finish.

As an alternative to manually creating an Outlook shortcut, a file called Chnginbx.exe is located on the Office 97 compact disc in the \Valupack\Patch folder. Running this program will remove the Inbox icon from the desktop and convert the Outlook shortcut to a permanent desktop icon. The Outlook icon will then start Outlook and access user profiles and service properties by when you right-click the icon.

Note Microsoft does not recommend running the Chnginbx.exe file with Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Outlook 2002. The results are not predictable and are not supported.
