ActiMates: White Bar Appears at the Top of the Screen

SYMPTOMS

When you start any of the software titles listed in the applies to section of this article, a white bar may appear at the top of the screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a display adapter based on the Permedia 2 chipset with 4 megabytes (MB) of video memory, and the display color palette is set to True Color (32-bit).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use any of the following methods.

Reduce Color Palette

Reduce the color palette to High Color (16-bit) or 256 Colors. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Color Palette or Colors box, click High Color (16 bit) or 256 Colors.
  5. Click OK. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Reduce Graphics Hardware Acceleration

To reduce graphics hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System.
  3. Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
  4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider until it is one notch to the right of None (the Basic acceleration setting).
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  6. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
If the issue continues to occur, try moving the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to left (the None acceleration setting).

Disable Direct3D Hardware Acceleration

To disable Direct3D hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type the following line, and then click Find Now:

    dxsetup.exe

  3. In the list of found files, double-click the Dxsetup.exe file.
  4. Under Options, click to clear the Direct3D Hardware Acceleration Enabled check box, and then click OK.
  5. Close the Find: Files Named Dxsetup.exe window.
