SYMPTOMS

When you use Task Scheduler to schedule a program, the program may not start. When this occurs, you may receive the following error message:
The service is currently stopped. No tasks will run unless the service is started. Do you want to start the service.
Clicking Yes produces the following error message:
Unable to start the service.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your Windows folder has the same name as the volume label of the hard disk on which the Windows folder is located.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the volume label of the hard disk. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Right-click the hard disk that has the same name as your Windows folder, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Label box, type a new name for your hard disk, and then click OK.
