SideWinder Err Msg: A Limitation Exists with Your Computer's...

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Device software on a computer running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:

A limitation exists with your computer's resources or configuration. Setup can't install on your current operating system. Check your product packaging for system requirements.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Windows reports the wrong Windows version number to the SideWinder installation program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.



2. In the Named box, type "mkcompat.exe" (without the quotation marks), and then click Find Now.



3. In the list of found files, double-click the Mkcompat.exe file.



4. On the File menu, click Choose Program.



5. In the File Name box, type the following line, and then click Open
   
   <drive>:\setup.exe
   
   where <drive> is the letter of the CD-ROM drive that contains the SideWinder Game Device software installation CD-ROM.



6. Click the Lie About Window's Version Number check box to clear it.



7. On the File menu, click Exit.



8. Install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Device software.
