SYMPTOMS
When you print preview a worksheet in Microsoft Excel 97, you may receive
the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the
following:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module MSO97.DLL at
0137:307d54d8.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- You print preview a worksheet.
-and-
- The worksheet contains a transparent Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)
picture.
-and-
- Your Windows color depth is set to True Color (24 bit) or True Color
(32 bit).
WORKAROUND
Setting the Windows color depth to a lower setting, such as High Color (16
bit), may resolve this problem. To do this, follow these steps.
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. In
Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab. Click the
arrow next to the Colors and click High Color (16 bit). Click OK.
You will have to restart your computer in order for the changes to take
effect.
