SYMPTOMS
While you are installing Windows 98, you may receive the following error
message during the ScanDisk portion of Setup:
Setup checked the hard disks on your computer and found that there may
be problems. You need to check all of your drives before continuing setup.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using a real-mode Novell NetWare
client, and there is not enough free conventional memory to continue with
Windows 98 Setup.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use either or both of the following methods:
Method 1
Increase the amount of free conventional memory, and then run Windows 98
Setup again. To increase the amount of free conventional memory, use
either or both of the following methods:

Method 2
- Use ScanDisk to thoroughly check your hard disk for errors. To do so,
follow the steps in the appropriate section below:
ScanDisk for MS-DOS:
- Type scandisk at a command prompt.
- When you are prompted to perform a surface scan, press Y (for Yes).
ScanDisk for Microsoft Windows 95:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type scandskw, and then click OK.
- Click Thorough, and then click Start.
- Run Windows 98 Setup using the setup /is
command-line switch to skip the ScanDisk portion of Setup.
MORE INFORMATION
If you run ScanDisk for MS-DOS or ScanDisk for Windows 95, you do not
receive the error message.
