SYMPTOMS

If you create a backup file on a Handheld PC (H/PC) running Windows CE 2.0 and then restore the backup file to a different model of H/PC, hot keys and other features specific to the second H/PC may no longer function properly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Perform a hard reset on the H/PC. For information about how to perform a hard reset on the H/PC, please see your H/PC documentation.

WARNING: When you perform a hard reset on the H/PC, you erase all information stored on the H/PC.
  2. Connect the H/PC to the desktop computer.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to create a new partnership between the desktop computer and the H/PC.
  4. Synchronize the H/PC with the desktop computer.
  5. Install any additional programs you want to use on the H/PC.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
