SYMPTOMS

When you send mail from the Microsoft Outlook 98 Corporate/Workgroup installation using the HTML format, to a user who is using MSN, The Microsoft Network Online service version 2.5, you find that the formatting is being displayed as plain text. Additionally, any graphics elements such as pictures or backgrounds are included as attachments.

CAUSE

This issue seems to occur only with MSN 2.5. The MIME information in the mail message is not interpreted correctly at the receiving end.

RESOLUTION

To achieve the best result sending mail to recipients on MSN 2.5, use Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.
