The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 5.1a, 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, when you cut or copy text to the Clipboard for use in another program, the text formatting may be lost when it is pasted.

CAUSE

The option to include text formatting in the Clipboard is not selected. Without this option, the text will appear unformatted.

RESOLUTION

To preserve the formatting of the text, Word can provide Rich Text Format (RTF) information to the Clipboard. To set this option, use the appropriate method for your version of Word.

Word 6.0

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the General tab, click to select (place a check in) the "Include formatted text in Clipboard" check box.

Word 5.0

  1. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.

  2. Click the General Icon.

  3. Click to select (place a check in) the "Include formatted text in Clipboard" check box.

Word 4.0

If not already present add the Include RTF In Clipboard command to a menu by using the Commands command on the Edit menu. Place check mark next to that command on menu where it appears.
