If you have a Hotmail account, you may want to use Microsoft Outlook 98 to download your e-mail to your computer's hard drive to minimize your connection time by reading, composing, and viewing your email offline. This article describes how to do this.
If you want to use Outlook to access your Hotmail account, you must sign-up for Hotmail's Premium Services.
To sign-up for Premium Services, follow these steps:
1. Log into your Hotmail account.
2. On the menu bar, click Help Center.
3. Click Premium Services.
4. Click POP Access.
5. Click "more POP Access Information" in the descriptive paragraph.
You will get instructions from Hotmail by return mail when you sign up for Premium Service.
NOTE: You may experience problems with some attachments. According to a Hotmail representative, "The problem is not specific to Outlook, but affects many Hotmail users. We are currently in the process of rewriting the attachment code and hope that most of the bugs currently experienced with attachments in Hotmail will be resolved once it is in use. In the meantime, if a user gets an attachment that is not received correctly, we recommend that they request the attachment to be resent to them."
