If a system policy is enabled on a computer that prevents you from
changing the name of the computer using the Network tool in Control Panel,
you may be able to change the computer name if the computer contains an
infrared device.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98,
Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2).
MORE INFORMATION
If the Hide Identification Page system policy is enabled on a computer,
the Identification tab does not appear when you double-click the Network
tool in Control Panel, and you cannot change the name of the computer. If
an infrared device is installed in the computer, you can change the
computer name using the Infrared tool in Control Panel.
