The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SUMMARY

This article explains how to access the directory service mailbox from your Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange clients. This procedure can be used to delete items in the Outbox of the directory service mailbox when items are not flowing through the mailbox during intersite directory replication.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

  1. Log on to the server where the directory replication connector is installed, as the Exchange service account. (This is very important.)

  2. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and go to the following key:

          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
          \Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

  3. Locate a profile called "ExchangeDS xxxxxxxxxx". Select the profile name key. Click Save Key on the Registry menu and save the entry to disk.

  4. Add a key under Profiles and name it (use something descriptive, such as "DS Profile"). Select that profile key you just created and click Restore on the Registry menu. Select the file you created in step 3.

  5. In the Inbox Properties or through Control Panel (double-click the Mail and Fax icon), the profile you just created should be listed in Show Profiles.

  6. Log on to the "DS Profile's" mailbox to view and/or delete the items in the Outbox.
