XADM: Restoring Public Folder on Offline Recovery Server

Q180003

The information in this article applies to:

In order to restore a public folder from backup to a recovery server, the recovery server name must be the same as the server that contains the public folder replicas. If this is not the case, the administrator may not be able to open up the property page of a public folder(s). If the administrator wants to gain access to the public folder contents only, the public folders must be included under Folders on the Information Store on the Instances tab. Access the Instances tab at <server name>/Public Information Store/File-Properties. Once this is accomplished, run DS/IS Consistency Adjustment and select <server name>/File-Properties/Advanced.

If the administrator requires that the original directory attributes remain intact after the restore, then the recovery machine should have the same name as the original server because the dir.edb file and the pub.edb file would need to be restored.
