Mutant: Character Runs Forward or Turns Left When You Start Game

SYMPTOMS

When you start Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant, your character may run forward or turn to the left even though you are not moving the gaming or pointing device, or pressing the ARROW keys on the keyboard.

CAUSE

This issue can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • The gaming device has not been calibrated correctly in the Joystick or Game Controllers tool in Control Panel.
  • A saved game is damaged.

RESOLUTION

If this is the first time you have played Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant, or if you have just connected a game device to the computer, calibrate the gaming device. To calibrate your game device, use the appropriate method below for your version of Windows:

Windows 95 NOTE: If you are using the Microsoft SideWinder Game Device Software, follow the steps in the "Windows 98" section later in this article.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Joystick.
  3. Click Calibrate, and then follow the calibration instructions.
  4. When you receive the following message, click Finish:

    You have successfully calibrated your device.
  5. Click Test to verify that the gaming device responds correctly.
Windows 98
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Game Controllers.
  3. Click the game device you want to calibrate, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Settings tab, click Calibrate, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
If the gaming device is not calibrated correctly in the Joystick or Game Controllers tool in Control Panel, contact your gaming device manufacturer for more information about calibrating the device.

To disable the gaming device in Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant, follow these steps:
  1. Start the game, and then press the ESC key.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Controls.
  4. Click the Joystick/Gamepad check box to clear it.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK.
If the issue continues, one of your saved games may be damaged. Rename or delete the saved game that does not work correctly. The default location for saved games in Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant is the Program Files\Dreamworks Interactive\Mutant folder. Saved games are named Save.00 through Save.09.
