NetMeeting 2.1 includes the following new features and improvements:
User Interface
- NetMeeting 2.1 uses a Microsoft Outlook-style interface for viewing the
Directory, SpeedDial, Current Call, and History windows.
- By default, docked video windows display the actual size of the video
being sent and received.
- By default, speed dial entries are not automatically updated when
you connect to the Internet Locator Server (ILS) server using a 28.8
modem.
- The Audio Tuning Wizard provides feedback when you record, and enables
you to test the speaker volume.
- If you have multiple video capture devices installed in your computer,
NetMeeting 2.1 enables you to select the device you want to use.
- ILS directory server listings are cached you switch between servers,
reducing the need to download complete list of users when changing
ILS servers and improving the performance of the user interface.
Protocols
- The Internet Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packet Exchange (IPX/SPX)
protocol is not included in NetMeeting 2.1. Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the core protocol because it
meets the H.323 standard for audio and video conferencing.
- The public switched telephone network (PSTN) protocol used for modem to
modem connections is not included in NetMeeting 2.1.
Application Sharing
- Application sharing is more robust and uses less memory, and sharing
over a modem connection is improved over earlier versions of
NetMeeting.
- The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) T.120 conferencing
specification is more reliable and provides faster throughput and less
copying when you conference using a T.120 session.
Audio and Video
- Audio performance is improved over slower connections.
- NetMeeting 2.1 implements DirectSound from DirectX version 5.0.
- Audio and video performance over a local area network (LAN) is improved
over earlier versions of NetMeeting.
