You can use NetShow Player to view audio and video content over the Internet. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Internet Explorer, and then click NetShow Player.

    NOTE: If you installed NetShow Player on your computer before installing Internet Explorer 4.0, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft NetShow, and then click NetShow Player.

  2. Use one of the following methods:

        - On the File menu, click Open Location, type the Web address of the
          Active Streaming Format (.asf) or Active Streaming Redirector (.asx)
          file you want to use, and then click OK.
    

        - On the File menu, click Open Location, type the path to the folder
          that contains the .asf or .asx file in the Open box, and then click
          OK.
    

        - Double-click an .asf or .asx file on your local hard disk or network
          to start NetShow Player.
    

Settings Tab

You can configure NetShow Player with any of the following settings. To access these settings, click Play Settings on the View menu. These options are on the Settings tab.

  • Play Count: Use this setting to play the content 1-9999 times, or continuously.
  • Rewind When Done Playing: Use this setting to cause NetShow Player to rewind the content after it has been played.
  • Appearance: Use this setting to configure the window size and the configuration of the controls. The Window Size option is available only when the content is playing.

Advanced Tab

You can configure NetShow Player with any of the following settings. To access these settings, click Play Settings on the View menu. These options are on the Advanced tab.

  • Buffering: Use this setting to set the number of seconds NetShow Player buffers the content before play. This option can improve performance when you have a poor connection to your Internet service provider or a bandwidth problem. The default buffering time is 3 seconds.
  • Protocols: Use this setting to change the protocol for the reception of NetShow Player content over a network and whether or not to use a proxy server to receive NetShow content.

    A proxy server is a server on a local area network that lets you connect to the Internet without using a modem.
