SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer 4.0, the Update Product shortcut on the Internet Explorer menu may be missing.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, manually create the Update Product shortcut. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar & Start Menu.

  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Add.

  3. In the Command Line box, type the following (with quotation marks):

          "c:\<path>\actsetup.exe" /j:job.ie4

where <path> is the path to the folder in which Internet Explorer is installed. Internet Explorer is typically installed in the Program Files\Microsoft Internet folder.

  4. Click Next, click the Internet Explorer folder, and then click Next again.

  5. Type "Update Product" (without quotation marks) in the "Select a name for the shortcut" box, and then click Finish.
