The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:

   An error occurred deleting file C:\Windows\Java\trustlib\tclasses.zip

   The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another
   process. (error #32).

CAUSE

This error message can occur if a Java program is running while you are installing Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, quit all running programs, and then click Retry. If the error message is displayed again, click Skip, allow the installation process to finish, and then reinstall Internet Explorer.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This behavior can occur if Internet Explorer 4.0 Preview Program 1 is installed on your computer and you open Control Panel before attempting to install Internet Explorer 4.0 Preview Program 2. When you open Control Panel, a Java program runs to display a description of each tool.
