PRB: Error Message - Cannot open resource file /usr/.../rsr

Last reviewed: April 28, 1997
Article ID: Q167444
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.51, 3.7

SYMPTOMS

The following error message appears when you try to run SOFTIMAGE 3D (SI3D) after upgrading to the next version:

SI_ERROR: dbLoadRelationDictionary() Cannot open resource file
   /usr/softimage/3D/rsr /Relations.rsrc

As a result, SI3D will not start (notice the 'c' missing in 'rsrc').

CAUSE

You have not installed the latest version of FLEXlm (version 5.0), which is necessary to launch SI3D.

RESOLUTION

When upgrading SI3D, ensure that you also upgrade the latest version of FLEXlm that comes with the install disks. To upgrade FLEXlm, complete the following procedure:

  1. Make a backup copy of the softimage.dat file by entering the following command:

          cp /usr/local/flexlm/licences/softimage.dat /usr/tmp

  2. Now delete the flexlm directory by entering the following command:

          rm -r /urs/local/flexlm

  3. Use the SI3D install program to upgrade the FLEXlm license manager.

  4. Copy the softimage.dat back to the correct directory by entering the following command:

          cp /usr/tmp/softimage.dat /usr/local/flexlm/licences/

These instructions are also available on the Readme letter that came with the service pack.
