BUG: Stored Procedure with Multiple Cursors May Cause Error 2805

SYMPTOMS

A stored procedure that contains multiple cursors and temporary tables may cause error 2805:

Bad pointer 0xed5f5a encountered while remapping stored procedure
'myproc'. Must re-create procedure.

The procedure involved contains two cursors that reference four other user tables. Temporary tables are also used for temporary storage inside the procedure. The procedure normally runs fine without any errors. However, if you run it in a while loop, and break the loop execution before it finishes, any further execution of this procedure causes error 2805.


WORKAROUND

When this error occurs, re-create the stored procedure.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.0. This problem does not occur in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5.
