Error Message Opening Microsoft Excel File on Handheld PC

SYMPTOMS

When you transfer a Microsoft Excel file from your desktop computer to your Handheld PC (H/PC), you may receive one of the following error messages when you attempt to open the file in Pocket Excel:
This file is in an obsolete format.
-or-
An error occurred reading '\Windodws\Desktop\<filename>' because the file is in an invalid format.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you copy or move a Microsoft Excel file from your desktop computer to your H/PC without converting the file to Pocket Excel (.pxl) format.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On your desktop computer, save the file in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook format.
  2. In H/PC Explorer, click File Conversion on the Tools menu, click the General tab, click the Enable File Conversion check box to select it, and then click OK.
  3. Use H/PC Explorer to transfer the file from your desktop computer to your H/PC.

MORE INFORMATION

H/PC Explorer can convert only files saved in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook format and the Pocket Excel format.
