Install IPX/SPX-Compatible Protocol

To place a call with the Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) protocol, you must first verify that the Internet Packet Exchange/Sequenced Package Exchange- compatible (IPX/SPX-compatible) protocol is installed on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click the Network icon.

  3. Click the Configuration tab.

  4. If "IPX/SPX-compatible protocol" does not appear in the list of installed components, then follow these steps to install it:

        a. On the Configuration tab, click Add.
    

        b. In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, click to select
           Protocol, and then click Add.
    

        c. In the Manufacturers list, click Microsoft.
    

        d. In the Network protocols list, click to select "IPX/SPX-compatible
           protocol," and then click OK.
    

  5. Click OK.

Using NetMeeting with the IPX Protocol

To use NetMeeting with the IPX protocol, follow these steps:

  1. Start NetMeeting.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  3. Click the Protocols tab.

  4. Click to select the Network (IPX) check box, and then click OK.

Placing a Call Using an IPX Address

To place a call using an IPX address, follow these steps:

  1. On the Call menu, click New Call (in NetMeeting 2.0), or click Place Advanced Call (in NetMeeting 1.0).

  2. In the Call Using list, click to select Network (IPX).

  3. Click the Address box, and then type the IPX address for the computer you are trying to call.

    The syntax for the IPX address is:

          XXXXXXXX:YYYYYYYYYYYY
    

    The first 8 digits represent the network address. The remaining 12 digits represent the computer (node) address.

Additional Information

Microsoft has released the Ipxaddr.exe tool. This tool can provide your IPX network and node address for use in NetMeeting conferences.
