SUMMARY
The following procedure shows you how to install TCP/IP
- To install TCP/IP, open the Network Control application by either
right-clicking on the Network Neighborhood icon, and select properties,
or click the Start button, select Settings, Control Panel, then double
click on the Network icon.
- In the Network settings dialog box, click the Adapters tab. You should
have at least one Network Adapter installed. To add a Network Adapter,
click Add, and from the adapter list select MS Loopback Adapter. This is
a software only driver. You do not need an actual network adapter for
this to work.
- With the NT 4.0 CD in the drive, click OK.
- Select the default for Frame Type, then if prompted provide the CD drive
letter and the appropriate path. (If your PC is a DEC Alpha, and the CD
is drive f: provide F:\ALPHA in the Setup path dialog box). It will then
install the necessary drivers.
- Once this is complete, or if you already have a network adapter
installed, select the Protocols tab. Click Add, and select TCP/IP
Protocol.
- With the NT 4.0 CD in the drive, click OK, then if prompted, enter the
proper path as above.
- After adding the Protocol, click OK in Network settings dialog box. NT
setup will go through a number of binding processes, and eventually
prompt you for TCP/IP configuration information. If your machine is
connected to a network you should obtain TCP/IP configuration
information from your System Administrator (i.e. should you use DHCP, a
TCP/IP address etc.).
- If you are using the MS Loopback adapter, or if your PC is not connected
to a Network, select Specify an IP address. For IP address you can enter
10.10.10.10, then hit the TAB key, the Subnet Mask should be filled out
for you. If not, you can enter 255.0.0.0.
- Click the DNS tab and make sure the Host Name matches your Computer Name
(found on the Information tab of the Network settings dialog box).
After you have completed the TCP/IP setup you will be prompted to
reboot.
Your TCP/IP protocol should now be installed.
