SUMMARY

When you start SOFTIMAGE 3D, FLEXlm (licensing software) uses TCP/IP to communicate with the FLEXlm server to verify that the client machine is licensed. To reduce validation time, you can add your FLEXlm server's IP address and host name to your client hosts file.

  • On NT, the client hosts file is located in %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (where %windir% is the drive, and path where Windows NT is installed).
  • On Irix, the client hosts file is located in /etc. Make sure that in the resolv.conf file the hostresorder line has local first. This will consult the local hosts file before using NIS or DNS.

Each line of the hosts file has the following format: 

<IP Address>  <hostname>   [alias]   [alias]
Lines that begin with # are comments.
