INFO: Improving FLEXlm Access to Server's IP Address

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, version 3.51

SUMMARY

FLEXlm uses TCP/IP to communicate with the FLEXlm server, as well as amongst servers (if redundant servers are used). It can be timely to resolve hostnames to IP addresses through DNS, NIS, or broadcasts and it is possible for FLEXlm to lose contact with other servers or clients. To help avoid this, you can add your FLEXlm servers IP address and host name to your hosts file (in the case of clients) or the partner FLEXlm servers (in the case of redundant servers).

  • On NT, the hosts file is located in %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (where %windir% is the drive, and path where Windows NT is installed).
  • On Irix, the hosts file is located in /etc. Make sure that in the resolv.conf file the hostresorder line has local first. This will consult the local hosts file before using NIS or DNS.

Each line of the hosts file has the following format:

<IP Address> <hostname> [alias] [alias]

Lines that begin with # are comments.
