SYMPTOMS
When you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro that uses the
ShowDependents method, you may receive the following error message:
Run-time error '1004':
ShowDependents method of Range class failed
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the ExecuteExcel4Macro method in your macro.
Examples
If your macro contains the following line of code to trace formula
dependents
Selection.ShowDependents
replace it with the following line of code:
Application.ExecuteExcel4Macro "TRACER.DISPLAY(FALSE,TRUE)"
If your macro contains the following line of code to remove the arrows that
trace formula dependents
Selection.ShowDependents Remove:=True
replace it with the following line of code:
Application.ExecuteExcel4Macro "TRACER.DISPLAY(FALSE,FALSE)"
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000.
