  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.51

SUMMARY

When you have multiple applications that reference FLEXlm, licensing conflicts may occur. This can result in problems starting SOFTIMAGE 3D. If you rename the copy of FLEXlm that SOFTIMAGE 3D references and edit the startup file, each time you start SOFTIMAGE 3D, it automatically references its unique copy of FLEXlm.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have encountered licensing conflicts, complete the following procedure:

  1. From the first SOFTIMAGE 3D CDROM, copy the FLEXlm script from the flexlm/etc/init directory to the /etc/init directory. When you copy it, rename it so that it no longer conflicts with other applications. For example, enter the command:

          #cp /CDROM/flexlm/etc/init.d/flexlm /etc/init.d/si_flexlm

  2. In the /etc/rc2.d directory, change the FLEXlm startup file that SOFTIMAGE 3D references. When SOFTIMAGE 3D installs FLEXlm it creates a link from S96flexlm to /etc/init.d/flexlm. Change this link so that it points to the new filename that you created in step 1. Delete S96flexlm and then re-create the link by entering the command:

          #ln -s /etc/init.d/si_flexlm /etc/rc2.d/S96flexlm

Verify that the SOFTIMAGE 3D license file is in the default location (/usr/local/flexlm/licenses/softimage.dat), and verify that the port used by SOFTIMAGE 3D is different than the port used by other FLEXlm license daemons.

  3. To start the new copy of FLEXlm and the lmsoft license daemon, you must either reboot your machine, or enter the command:

          #/etc/init.d/si_flexlm start
