INFO: Question: What Is a Softimage Unit?

Last reviewed: February 21, 1997
Article ID: Q163984
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.5, 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, versions 3.01, 3.51

SUMMARY

A Softimage Unit is primarily a user defined relative scale. If you want 1 Unit to be 1 cm, then 10 SI units = 10 cm, and 100 SI units = 1 meter. Alternatively, 1 Softimage Unit could equal a meter if you so choose. The following are a few exceptions to this relative value:

  • Depth of Field distance in Camera Settings: 1 Softimage Unit = 1 foot
  • Dynamic Simulations: 1 Softimage Unit = 1 meter.
  • Exporting or importing model files to or from other programs may involve default scaling conventions.
