HOWTO: Resolve Mental Ray Rendering Problems

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.5, 3.51

SUMMARY

This procedure provides a starting point for detecting the possible source of mental ray rendering problems:

MORE INFORMATION

  1. Start SOFTIMAGE 3D from a winterm shell with the command:

          'soft -c rsrc'.
    

  2. In the mental ray Options dialog box, activate the Verbose mode. Render a frame.

  3. The Verbose output reports what is wrong.

  4. Check file permissions for the following files:

          <your_database>/RENDER_PICTURES  This should be 777.
    

          /usr/tmp/soft.status  Should be erasable and you should be the
          owner.
