SUMMARY

This article is provided to help you recognize and fix corrupt files and databases.

MORE INFORMATION

The following are symptoms indicating that a file is corrupt:

  • when you load a scene if an element, such as a cluster, a model or a picture is missing. When pictures are missing from the scene, a "?" will appear in its place.
  • when you are unable to render your scene. In this case, you often get a SOFTIMAGE 3D internal error.
  • when you are unable to load a previously saved scene.

For most missing elements simply reapplying them often resolves the problem. However, if after saving and closing the scene the elements are still missing, you may have a corrupt database.

Fixing a Corrupt File

  1. To fix a corrupt file, you need to create a new database (Get -> DB_Manager -> Create New Database).

  2. Reload or reapply the missing elements.

  3. Save the scene in the newly created database using Save -> Scene,or use the DB_Exchange tool and move the scene to the new database (once the path for both browsers is in the SCENES chapter, you execute the move by clicking the Move button).
