The information in this article applies to:

  • The Microsoft Network version 1.0, 1.3, 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to access Program Viewer, or start Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0, the MSN, The Microsoft Network, sign in screen may not appear. Your computer tries to connect to the Web site and you receive an "Unable to locate..." error message.

RESOLUTION

Often signing in and signing out of MSN using another program on the system will re-associate the sign in screen with the MSN and Internet icons.

There are several programs that can be used to accomplish this, such as Postman.exe, Onlstmt.exe, and Inbox>Tools>Deliver Now using>The Microsoft Network.

If signing in and signing out using one of these programs does not re- associate the sign in screen with the MSN icon, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Double-click Dial-Up Networking. 3. Double-click The Microsoft Network. 4. Enter your Member ID and password for MSN. Be sure to include "MSN/"
before your ID when you connect to MSN with Dial-Up Networking. For
   example, enter:

      MSN/<your Member ID>

Also make sure that the password entered here contains no capital letters. All letters in the password must be entered in lower case.

  1. After you are connected, double-click the MSN icon on your desktop, or double-click the Internet Explorer icon.
6. Log off the connection, and then attempt to sign on again using your
   normal sign in procedure.
