  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.5, 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, versions 3.01, 3.51

SUMMARY

This article demonstrates three methods showing how to create an .mi file(s) using different options with the soft -R command.

MORE INFORMATION

Example 1

This procedures assumes that you have selected Output to File from the Rendering Options dialogue box. When this option is selected, the process creates a single .mi file including all the frames to be rendered (as specified in the saved scene unless the -s option with soft -R is used)

To create a single .mi file for your entire scene, from the directory where your files are located, enter the command:

   soft -R -m MY_OUT

The name of the resulting .mi file is:

   MY_OUT.mi

Example 2

This procedures assumes that you have selected Output to File per frame from the Rendering Options dialogue box. When this option is selected, the process creates a single .mi file for each frame (again, as specified in the saved scene, unless the -s option with soft -R is used).

To create a single .mi file for each frame in your scene, from the directory where your files are located, enter the command:

   soft -R -M MY_OUT

The names of the resulting .mi files are:

   MY_OUT.1.mi, MY_OUT.2.mi, MY_OUT.3.mi, etc...

Example 3

To determine the frames you want .mi file/s for, use the -S option with soft -R. This is assuming that your scene was saved with the 'Output to File' option activated. Use the -L option to get the latest version of the scene and the interactive confirmation -S to change the output image name and resolution.

Assuming you want a .mi file for frames 1 to 20 and that your output name is MY_OUTPUT, enter the following command:

   soft -R -s 1 20 1 -L -S MY_OUTPUT
