Article ID: Q161377
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.5, 3.51

SYMPTOMS

If the following error message appears when you run SOFTIMAGE 3D in the created sub-directory:

533:/usr/softimage/3D/bin/soft: rld: Fatal Error: cannot map soname

'libvl.so.1' using any of the
filenames/usr/softimage/3D/dso/libvl.so.1:/usr/lib/libvl.so.1:/lib/libvl.so .1:/lib/cmplrs/cc/libvl.so.1:/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/libvl.so.1:/usr/softimage/3 D/dso/libvl.so.1.1:/usr/lib/libvl.so.1.1:/lib/libvl.so.1.1:/lib/cmplrs/cc/l ibvl.so.1.1:/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/libvl.so.1.1

either the file does not exist or the file can not be mapped (with reasons indicated in the error message).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the IRIX install is incomplete. The files are missing from /usr/lib, where 'libvl.so.1' is the important file.

RESOLUTION

You can copy the missing files from another machine with the same OS version, or extract them from the IRIX install CDROM.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
