SUMMARY
Because of physical read limitations on some CD-ROM drives, you may
not be able to access some files and folders on the Goosebumps compact
disk. This article lists those files and supplies a method to test your
CD-ROM drive.
MORE INFORMATION
The CD-ROM drive may have difficulty reading the final three folders,
listed below, from the Goosebumps compact disc:
Folders Location On Disc
------- ----------------
Drvsnec 625 MB
Msddraw 628 MB
Ess 629 MB
To test for specific drive-capacity limitations, try to access the
files listed below for disk 1:
Files Location On Disc
----- ----------------
Data\Diskid.1 612 MB
Ess\Essmpu.drv 629 MB
The Goosebumps compact disk contains 635 MB of data on Disc 1. Disc 2
contains 621 MB of data.
Testing Your CD-ROM Drive
To ensure the integrity of files that you have copied from your
CD-ROM drive to your hard disk drive, compare the files using the MS-
DOS File Compare program (FC.EXE). You can use this test to determine
if the CD-ROM subsystem is functioning properly at the device driver
or hardware level(s).
The Fc.exe utility is a useful method for testing problems related to
general protection (GP) faults or other critical errors (such as read
errors or out of memory messages) that may occur while running a CD-
ROM application with Windows.
Make a directory on your hard disk drive and copy one of the files below
to that directory. Attempt to copy one of the following files to a
directory on your hard disk drive:
Files Location On Disc
----- ----------------
Data\Diskid.1 612 MB
Autorun.inf 630 MB
For more information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your
Windows printed documentation or online Help.
If the following error message appears,
CDR101: Not Ready
the CD-ROM drive cannot read the disc at the specified location. If the
file does copy, test the file's integrity by using Fc.exe with the /B
(binary) switch. For example, to compare the Setup.exe file on your
compact disc to the version of Autorun.ing file you copied to your hard
drive, type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER,
fc /b d:\Autorun.inf c:\Autorun.inf
where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive, and C is the letter of your
hard drive.
If you receive errors, the CD-ROM drive is having problems reading the
disc at that location.
