SYMPTOMS

When you use the admin_ip registry value to restrict access to one computer, and you connect to the administrator pages, you will observe the following behavior with Internet Explorer 3.0 when an administrator tries to access a store from other computers:
  • The normal access dialog box comes up.
  • When you entering the username and password, it fails three times.
  • The authorization failed page is displayed, showing the following message:
    Authorization Failure
We are sorry, but we cannot fulfill that request for you.
No event is logged in the Windows NT Server event viewer.

WORKAROUND

Ensure that the IP addresses of all the computers used by Merchant administrators are specified as comma separated values for the admin_ip entry under the following registry key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MerchantServer\Stores\
   <storename>\Admin

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Merchant Server version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
